Urbanix Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that our CEO, Tomokazu Iwabuchi, has been appointed Deputy Secretary-General of the Fukuoka Directive Council (FDC), a general incorporated association.
Background to the Appointment
Iwabuchi specialized in urban design research during his doctoral studies at Kyushu University Graduate School, and served on the FDC secretariat from 2020 to 2023. During that time, he was engaged in planning and coordination related to urban strategy — including advancing FUKUOKA Smart EAST, building partnerships with overseas cities such as Helsinki and Taipei, and working on a project with UN-Habitat.
After founding Urbanix Co., Ltd. in September 2023, he continued to draw on his expertise in urban design to build the business, and he now rejoins the organization's management as Deputy Secretary-General.
Connection with URBANIX's Work
URBANIX works together with municipal governments and private-sector businesses on an integrated basis — from survey and analysis rooted in cities, areas and real estate, to strategy design, spatial design, and the development of IT products for community development.
The knowledge of regional strategy and wide-area collaboration that Iwabuchi gains through his FDC activities is expected to also benefit the urban design and area-regeneration projects URBANIX carries out across Japan. It is an area that overlaps with initiatives such as our International City-to-City Collaboration project.
